“The cape gooseberry is one of the main markers of the agro-export basket of fresh fruits from Colombia, along with the avocado, the Tahiti lemon and the gulupa, in addition to being a recognized exotic fruit that is cultivated throughout the year in Colombia”indicated Flavia Santoro, president of Procolombia.

Currently, this exotic fruit reaches 17 countries around the worldamong which the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Canada, France, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Italy, Spain and the United States stand out, the latter being the main buyer.

In this regard, the Analdex Uchuva Exporters Committee has also said that the fruit has the potential to exceed $US100 million in exports in the next 5 years.

(Flower sector rebounded, despite the pandemic).

In 2021, cape gooseberry reached nearly 20 international markets and a sum of US$37.8 million in exports. The departments that have become the main producers and exporters of the fruit are Cundinamarca, Bogotá, Antioquia and Boyacá.
