The mining union, headed by Napoleón Gómez Urrutia, agreed with the El Baztán mining company, located in Huetamo, Michoacán, an 8 percent direct salary increase for its members.
The workers of section 331 of the National Union of Mining, Metallurgical, Steel and Similar Workers of the Mexican Republic unanimously approved the increase as part of the salary revision, which is above inflation.
In addition, in a different process, the miners carried out the consultation to legitimize their collective contract and the majority of the workers decided to ratify their working conditions.
The procedure was carried out through a free, secret and direct vote, and the miners of section 331 overwhelmingly voted to remain in the union headed by Gómez Urrutia.
In compliance with the provisions established in the new labor reform, the consultation was held on April 20, in accordance with the call issued by the Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration. The foregoing, once the requirements of being published in writing 10 days before the voting were met, properly placing themselves in the different work areas, in a visible way so that the workers of the three shifts had prior knowledge
of the summons.
The miners of section 331 also recognized the efforts of Gómez Urrutia for the commitment to seek better wages and working conditions for its members, and to assert the rights of the working class
as part of the new labor reform.
