While there are thousands of compatriots out of work, however, a total of 44 deputies were again absent, leaving without the necessary quorum for the development of the extraordinary session. In it, important issues such as; the prohibition of the assignment of fuels to the authorities and powers of the three powers of the State, the one that sanctions the conflict of interests, and the one that modifies the articles of the Paraguayan Electoral Code.
Pedro Alliana, president of the Lower House, described as irresponsible the attitude of many of his colleagues for not showing up.
“This shows the irresponsibility of some colleagues, it is not just from now. But rest assured that, from the presidency, we are going to take the corresponding measures; we are going to carry out the discounts that are stipulated in our Internal Regulations”, he warned.
Discounts for late arrivals are G. 300 thousand per legislator and G. 600 thousand for unjustified absences.
It should be remembered that the deputies were summoned to session on Thursday morning, because, during the extraordinary session on Wednesday, they were only able to exhaust three of the 20 topics established in the Agenda.
President Alliana appointed the administrative secretary, Julio Cabrera, as the person in charge of drawing up the list of deputies, whose allowances will be deducted. The punishment will be applied from the month of May.
Finally, he informed that the Board of Directors could convene a new extraordinary session for next Tuesday, May 10, in order to consider the points that were not discussed on the date.
DEPUTIES
Sebastián Villarejo, a national deputy for the PPQ, expressed that the punishments for his missing colleagues, who do not have justification, should not only be pecuniary (related to money).
“Any Paraguayan worker according to our Labor Code, if he/she is absent without justification a certain number of times, his/her contract may be terminated. I think no one can be missing a dozen times. Many deputies of all colors who are working, and others who do not have that priority, ”she questioned.
Kattya González, national deputy for the PEN, pointed out that she had a promise from Basilio “Bachi” Núñez, leader of the Chartist caucus, to approve the conflict of interest bill in general and then deal with it in 15 days. However, they reneged on the promise.
