Members of the opposition political party justice first (PJ), of which the two-time presidential candidate Henrique Capriles is a member, are working to reach an agreement for the primary elections in which it is decided who will be the opposition candidate who will face Chavismo in the presidential elections scheduled for 2024 in Venezuela. .
During a conversation with PJ militants, outlined in a press release from his team, the leader of the political organization, Tomás Guanipa, reiterated the importance of reaching agreements and unity within the Venezuelan opposition to defeat Chavismo.
“What matters is that we unite and beat Nicolás Maduro so that we open the doors to the hope of being able to live in a better country and in a city where people can move forward,” said Guanipa.
The leader assured that the political formation is working on electoral regulations that will allow guarantees for anyone who wants to participate in eventual presidential primaries.
“In order for us to win the presidential elections we have to go out and organize ourselves, we are already making the rules, I think that everyone who aspires to be president should go out and tour the country and build their alliances and it is also important to set a date, so that people know when you are going to choose it,” he said.
Guanipa insisted that politicians must defend that the will of the people be fulfilled and that, from now on, “no candidate” for elected positions “is decided by a bud (group)”.
“Democratic Coalition”
On May 1, opponent Carlos Prosperi asked to conform a “democratic coalition” including civil society organizations for the 2024 presidential elections.
The deputy indicated that it is important that Venezuelans participate and elect a presidential candidate who faces the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) in two years.
“The primaries must be held at the end of this year, at the latest in the first quarter of 2023. We must choose a candidate and seek a minimum of electoral conditions,” he insisted, according to a press release.
