President Jair Bolsonaro inaugurated today (5), in Paraíba, a Basic Health Unit (UBS) and participated in the delivery of a stretch of the integration works of the São Francisco River. The basic unit is located in the municipality of Gurinhém, in which R$ 326,400 were invested with the expectation of serving an estimated population of 14,000 people.
Plot 1 of Vertente Litorânea is part of a 130-kilometer (km) pipeline system that integrates the Paraíba watersheds with the waters of the East Axis of the São Francisco River Integration Project. During his speech, Bolsonaro associated access to water with the freedom of the population, who, according to him, will depend less and less on water trucks.
“We are leaving in history the kite cars, which helped in the past. But there was a lot of politics in it,” Bolsonaro said.
According to the Ministry of Regional Development, Vertente Litorânea is a system made up of 15 channel segments with a trapezoidal section; five sections in inverted siphons, in steel pipes, that cross river valleys and streams; and seven aqueducts.
The total invested was budgeted at R$ 1.41 billion, with the expectation of benefiting municipalities in the mesoregion of the Paraíba agreste (Itatuba, Mogeiro, Itabaiana, São José dos Ramos, Sobrado, Riachão do Poço, Sapé, Mari, Cuité de Mamanguape, Araçagi, Itapororoca and Curral de Cima).
In operation since 2017, according to the ministry, the East Axis of the São Francisco River Integration Project is 217 km long and supplies 1.4 million people in 46 cities in Pernambuco and Paraíba.
