The office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), headed by Michelle Bachelet, denounces that in Nicaragua “there is no democracy” because the regime has been in charge of closing civic spaces with the cancellation of 50 organizations Non-Governmental (NGO) in less than a week.

The explanatory statement, which was presented by the Ortega deputy, Filiberto Rodríguez, indicates that the non-profit organizations “have failed to comply with their obligations”, and also affirm that they did not report their financial statements according to the fiscal periods. Among which stands out Fundación Diez, a social entity of Channel 10 television; and the association Programa Regional Feminista la Corriente, led by human rights defender María Teresa Blandón.
They allege that the entities have failed to comply with their obligations under the laws that govern them as non-profit organizations, these being the following: Law 147, General Law on Non-Profit Legal Entities, Law 977, Law Against Money Laundering, the Financing of Terrorism, and the Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction; Executive Decree 15 -2018 Regulation of Law 977, Law Against Money Laundering, the Financing of Terrorism, and the Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
The initiative also states that the 25 organizations “have hindered the control and surveillance of the Department of Registration and Control of Non-Profit Civil Associations, which is carried out by the Ministry of the Interior for this purpose, because by not complying with the laws that govern them and regulate have acted against express law, for which the Ministry of the Interior has requested (…) this National Assembly to cancel the legal personality of these entities.”

“Due to the aforementioned (…) the cancellation of the legal personality of the different entities related to this Legislative Decree Initiative is requested, for which the Plenary is requested to approve the cancellation of the respective legal personalities,” the document details. sent by the Sandinista deputy Rodríguez, who chairs the Commission for Peace, Defense, Governance and Human Rights.
Since last April 20 and yesterday, Thursday, May 4, 25 NGOs have been cancelled, adding 75 organizations in 15 days. Among the organizations that have been affected are NGOs that defend human rights, medical, feminist, educational, universities, environmentalists, indigenous, journalists and think tanks.
