MADRID, Spain.- The World Cocktail Championship will be held for the first time in Cuba from November 4 to 9, organized by the Havana Club rum company and the International Bartenders Association (IBA).
The event will take place at the Meliá Internacional Hotel in Varadero and will feature the participation of renowned bartenders from 65 countries, as well as the presidents of the member organizations of the International Bartenders Association.
Italian barman and IBA president Giorgio Fadda told the Spanish news agency EFE that “the most important thing about holding the event in Cuba is that the participants will later transmit their experience and promote Cuba as a destination in the world.”
Fadda also pointed out that the meeting will serve as “recognition of the quality of Cuban cocktails” and mentioned that the first association of bartenders in the world was created in Cuba.
The championship was announced during the International Tourism Fair (FitCuba 2022) that is taking place this week in Varadero. According to its coordinators, it will include pairing with rums, chocolate, coffee and cigars; as well as exchanges with masters of Cuban rum.
In the context of FITCuba 2022, the Government of the Island has also expressed its intention to implement measures to develop sustainable and environmentally friendly tourism.
The International Tourism Fair, dedicated to Russia as guest of honor, was inaugurated this May 3 at the Plaza América Convention Center with the presence of the Cuban ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and the regime’s prime minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, who for many years headed the tourism sector in the country.
