Extradition of 'Otoniel': Presidential Candidates Divide Opinions

After the extradition of Dairo Antonio Úsuga, alias ‘Otoniel’, to the United States, the different presidential candidates reacted and spoke about the fact.

presidential candidate Federico Gutierrez noted that “Otoniel is one of the worst criminals Colombia has ever had. I celebrate that he is being extradited and that he pays for his crimes and that once he finishes paying for his drug trafficking crimes and for everything that is being judged abroad return to the country to pay their penalties and answer to their victims.”

In context: With a watery eye, this is how ‘Otoniel’ was seen before being extradited to the United States

Unlike Gutiérrez, the presidential candidate Luis Pérez Gutiérrez rejected the decision and stressed that “they took away the truth”.

“I believe that President Iván Duque was wrong with the extradition of alias ‘Otoniel’, he has done a lot of harm to Colombia, much more harm to us than to the United States. They took the truth, reparation for the victims, That’s why we have to make adjustments to extradition so that we don’t continue to suffer spillage and that they simply take to the United States a person who has not told us the truth.”

On the other hand, the presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt of the Oxygen Green political party stated that in the United States alias ‘Otoniel’ must tell the truth.

“I believe that in the United States life is going to be protected and in this way We are going to have prosecutors who are going to go to the United States to try to find out what they have to tell us.. For the victims, the truth about ‘Otoniel’ is very important. He has secrets from very important people.”

Sergio Fajardo pointed out that despite the fact that ‘Otoniel’ was a criminal, the truth had to: “Stay in Colombia.”

“The capture of a criminal is always important and we have to recognize it. This man was a major brand criminal, that is, a synonym of destruction in every way. But we must have the truth in our country, Colombia is full of victims whatthey have not been repaired who do not know the truth and who have not seen justice,” he said.

Through his Twitter account, Rodolfo Hernandez assured that “to extradite Otoniel, or any other, before he testifies and is accountable is to renounce the country’s sovereignty and make fun of Colombian justice. This government should be judged.”

Meanwhile, the candidate John Milton Rodriguez pointed out that “With Otoniel, what happened with Santrich could not happen to us and that is why I am glad that justice is done in the case of this criminal .That he answers for all his crimes! (…) there is a lot of evil committed and not only for him but for all those criminals of this nature and at this level have to experience the forceful consequences of the weight of the law, ”he said.
