Julio César Arriola, the new national foreign minister, in an interview for 730 AM, stated that they sent three notes to Brazil to advance the revision of the treaty. However, from the neighboring country they ask to wait until the pandemic is over to start the work.
“I will call the foreign minister of Brazil, I will speak with him as a colleague. Brazil, Chile and Argentina are the countries that group 70% of our exports, so we have many important issues to deal with”, he commented.
He said that there is a dialogue process and that the position of the National Government is clear is to advance in the negotiations for the revision of Annex “C”.
Likewise, he announced that they will work on economic reactivation with the expansion of markets and opening new business opportunities with the support of the private sector. For this purpose, the 41 embassies and 35 consulates will work.
Regarding the Covax Mechanism, a WHO agency that was contracted by the Government for the acquisition of vaccines but that did not comply with the agreement, he stated that he will speak with the Minister of Health, Julio Borba, to find out what measures to take.
“We are going to claim the money. That is a duty. We are going to do it in an organized way. Appeal to the place where we should do it. The Minister of Health will be accompanied by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs”, he reported.
