The contract was signed by the president of Cubanacán, Jorge Alberto García, and the president of Medical Services, Yamila de Armas Águila.

“The idea is, for example, that tourists can enjoy one of the best beaches in the world and safely receive their hemodialysis treatment,” De Armas Águila told the official press.

The commercial director of Cubanacán, Alexis Llanes Álvarez, specified that in the case of Havana, medical care will be provided in the La Pradera International Health Center, which operates jointly with the Comodoro and Chateau Miramar hotels. Meanwhile, in Varadero, health services for foreign tourists will be offered at the International Clinic and the Tuxpan and Brisas del Caribe hotels.

In accordance with Cubadebatethis new agreement includes long-stay programs to offer “quality of life” in the Ciénaga de Zapata.

These services are “aimed at a generally elderly client who decides to leave the aggressive and cold climate, and travels for periods of more than 40 days, and in the place where they are going to be, they need medical coverage,” said De Armas Águila.

“For this, our group puts all its infrastructure, which includes logistics and medical insurance to all the programs that will be implemented,” said the president of Cubanacán during the signing of the agreement. “This agreement is a priority for Cuba,” he added.

At the end of 2021, it transpired that The Spanish hotel company Meliá and the Cuban Medical Services Marketing Company itself signed a contract to sell health and wellness services to customers who stay at the tourist facilities managed by the Spanish company on the island.

In accordance with a note published at that time on the Travel Trade Caribbean website, it is “a mutually beneficial pact, aimed at promoting quality of life and well-being options in accommodation facilities.”

The Island Government has been frequently criticized for offering higher quality health services to foreign tourists, to the detriment of Cuban nationals.

In a report posted just over a year ago by CubaNeta team of reporters from this medium assures that health tourism on the Island is “a paradise for foreigners”, which contrasts with “hospitals, polyclinics, maternity homes and isolation centers for COVID-19 whose buildings lack regular maintenance ”.
