Mayor Iván Arias announced yesterday that the waste industrialization process will be tendered within a month and that he expects that in a period of up to two years it will go from managing a sanitary landfill to transforming waste into raw material that it will generate. circular economy.

“In another month we are putting out the national and international tender for the treatment of garbage; what we are doing now is the same, from dump we have gone to landfill and the next step is to go to industrialization and we are going to tender the industrialization of our garbage for those who want to do the business (with the product),” said Arias.

The mayor yesterday visited the landfill to share a lunch with the workers who work in the sector, as a way to remember International Workers’ Day.

He recalled that last year there were already 70 bidders at technical meetings to industrialize the garbage and that now the tender will be held to find out the best offer.

The municipal secretary of Environmental Management, Marcelo Lorberg, explained that the useful life of the landfill is coming to an end and that the future in solid waste management lies in the creation of an “industrial complex of plants to industrialize garbage.”
