Meanwhile, the letter that reached the hands of the president in the afternoon, states: “We value as very positive for democracy that it has received us and we pay for the possibility of dialogue to always exist. Likewise, We hope that these proposals will be consideredas well as the exchange that is understood pertinent about them”.
The first measure point to double dthe amount allocated to Family Allowances and the Uruguay Social Card (YOUR) in the next Rendering of Accounts for a year. ANDThey estimate it will cost about $300 million.
The second alternative refers to National Minimum Wagefor which it is requested increase -unspecified- to serve, mainly, informal workers and “combat the famine that the country is going through.” In that line, the third order to the Lacalle government seeks an extension of solidarity wages, that end this May, understanding that they were “an important umbrella in terms of job recovery during 2021”.
“It is essential to increase the number of reference wages (they began at 12 monthly wages and today they are located at six), which would increase the income of these workers,” the letter adds.
In the fourth order: increase public investment, of both the central administration and public companies.
The next point suggests streamlining the National Housing Plan, with “more investment in the resolution of the housing problem” and advances of those projected for later years. “It is necessary to advance in a system of public purchases that favors national production to a greater extent. (…) Based on experience, the current regulations on public purchases should be reviewed, in order to support national production and particularly the sectors more intensive in employment”, affirms the PIT-CNT.
Another measure focuses on the recovery of real wages. In this case, the focus is on the government accelerate the salary recovery process. The intention is that workers, especially with lower wages, “do not continue to receive wages below the starting level and therefore perpetuate the period of loss.”
There are more measures aimed at reactivating employment. For example, in point 8 they insist on generating a “tripartite social dialogue process” in search of forming a “job creation plan”. In line with this proposal, the following calls for the entire political system, retirees, workers and businessmen to be summoned to discuss in depth the issue of social security.
The trade union proposed to the government make four annual tax adjustments for finance the proposals submitted in Executive Tower, during the meeting with President Lacalle.
To “solve” the initiatives, the PIT-CNT asks to increase by 10% the tax on Wealth and the Tax on Income from Economic Activities (IRAE), from 25% to 35%. a “companies that have a net turnover equal to or greater than US$ 1 million per year or what declare earnings 25% higher than those declared the previous year; collect a lien to “the sectors that have had rises in the international prices of raw materials of more than 20% (for example, from meat, soy, rice, wheat) and put a 2% to Uruguayan deposits in the foreign financial system”.
“We put on record the defense of trade union freedoms and that in this sense we do not share different projects of legislators of the government coalition, who propose anti-union regulations in parliament. Within the framework of our defense of memory, truth and justice and never more terrorism of state, we express our frontal difference with the bill that proposes house arrest for those who have participated in state terrorism and crimes against humanity that were committed,” the letter concludes.
