The National Superintendence of Higher University Education (Sunedu) has requested information from the Cesar Vallejo University (UCV) on the investigations that it is developing and the status of the same linked to the public denunciations of alleged irregularities in the thesis to opt for the degree of magister of the president Pedro Castillo and his wife, Lilia Paredes Navarro.
It is important to specify that said academic degree was registered in the register of degrees, in charge of the disappeared National Assembly of Rectors (ANR)in August 2013.
Within the framework of university autonomy, the evaluation and review of theses and other research work is the responsibility of each university, not of the Sunedu.
It is also up to the universities to establish the qualification criteria for these works, to determine if they conform to the standards of originality and academic probity, and to act in accordance with their internal regulations to sanction any possible breaches of these principles.

However, the Superintendency is empowered -and has done so in this case- to request information from universities about their actions in these cases, in order to determine if it has been carried out in accordance with its own regulations and current laws.
“The quality of academic research is a cornerstone of university reform. In this sense, Sunedu has implemented, as part of the licensing process, a series of provisions aimed at promoting research in universities, not only in terms of quantity, but also quality and integrity”he underlined.
