The president of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), Miguel Vargas Maldonado, called this Wednesday “for calm” those who understand that, from official instances, “have taken the route of imposition and disrespect for constructive dialogue and discernment.” He cited among these the project to reform the Constitution.

Through a press release, he stated that, “These instances must regain calm and not promote, with belligerent speeches, the imposition of issues and actions out of time and alien to the current moment.”

“It is not about leaving or being dragged by anger, but about promoting an environment of consultation, dialogue and agreement to face the serious challenges facing the country,” he pointed out in the document.

Vargas Maldonado added that, as the opposition and broad social sectors have expressed it, there are no reasons to subject the nation to a process of Constitutional reformwhen the population suffers the ravages of a terrible famine and worrying deterioration in its quality of life.
