A man died from a “very deep cut” caused by a circular saw on Tuesday while working on a construction site. Pocitos (Montevideo)Sunca reported in a statement. The 48-year-old victim was taken to a medical center, but He passed away early this Wednesday.
The union called a partial national strike, from 9 to 13 for this Thursday, before the death of the worker, father of five children and a native of Canelones. He was on a construction site run by the Trasec construction company.
In the brief, Sunca explained that the man was manipulating a circular saw and that “at a certain moment” the disk got stuck, which caused a “very deep cut in one of his legs, at the height of the groin.” They reported that he lost a lot of blood, so he was referred to an intensive care center (ICU).
The union lamented the death of the worker, under the slogan: “How many deaths are necessary?”; and called again for a debate on a national law on health and safety at work.
During the strike time, there will be gatherings in Montevideo at Torre de Antel, Plaza Cagancha, Tres Cruces, Plaza Colón, Avenida 8 de Octubre and Luis Alberto de Herrera, Portones Shopping and at the Cerro terminal.
