Parliamentarians from the Education Commission of the Lower House request a special session with the presence of Minister Ávila to address acts of student violence

The members of the Education Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, including Daniela Serrano (PC), Alejandra Placencia (PC) and Luis Malla (PL), commanded by its president, Juan Santana (PS), requested a special session before “the violence that has been glimpsed in recent weeks in school buildings in the country”.

“We have come to announce the request for a special session of the Chamber of Deputies, to address the problems of violence and school coexistence that are experienced within educational establishments in our country,” Santana said.

In this sense, he affirmed that for the commission it is an issue of interest to know what measures the Ministry of Education will adopt to stop the acts of violence “which today is the concern of mayors, mayors and the educational communities that see how this wave of violence has been accentuating”.

For this, Santana stated that they will extend an invitation to the minister of the portfolio, Marco Antonio Ávila, as well as the undersecretary of Education, Nicolás Cataldo Astorga and the Ombudsman for Children, Patricia Muñoz García.

Alejandra Placencia, deputy and member of the commission, stated that they have spoken with various actors from the school communities, and that what is clear to her is that “going back to school meant aggravating a crisis in public education, since They took the corresponding measures in the previous government to foresee situations that today trigger conflicts”.

“Strengthen school communities to give them a leading role in decision-making and at the same time meet the legitimate demands of students, workers and education workers, fathers and mothers,” he added.

It should be noted that since the beginning of the 2022 academic school year, 12 of 18 emblematic high schools in Santiago and Providencia have suspended their classes due to occupations, protests or strikes. This has worsened in such a way that during the beginning of last week, the “white overalls” returned, who are subjects in white suits who star in events of various kinds.

On the other hand, on the outskirts of the Liceo Barros Borgoño, a group of unknown individuals burned a public transport bus, which has been added to the various mobilizations of the National Institute and the seizures at the Barros Arana National Boarding School, the Application Liceo, Liceo 7 and Liceo Lastarria.
