Boxing: Tamers from Cuba will officially debut as professionals

The team of boxing Domadores de Cuba will officially debut in professionalism on May 20 in a poster that will be played in the Mexican city of Aguascalientes, media reports report.

The Cuban Olympic champions Julio César La Cruz, Andy Cruz, Roniel Iglesias and Arlen López, along with world champions Lázaro Álvarez and Yoenlis Feliciano, will be the first to fight on a rented circuit after the Island Boxing Federation announced green light last April for their participation as professionals.

The sports entity reported then that he had signed a “representation contract” with the company Golden Ring Promotions to hold these fights in Mexican territory, the first official competitions in the professionalism of Cuban boxers since 1962.

The poster of six fights with the same number of rounds will take place at the Palenque de la Feria de San Marcos, in Aguascalientes and will be broadcast “to all of Latin America” ​​by ESPN KNOCKOUT, as reported the website Hit.

The two-time Olympic champion La Cruz, captain of the Domadores, will have as his opponent the Colombian cruiser Deivis Cásseres, who has a performance of 27 hits and 15 setbacks as a professional, and will be “the most seasoned among the island’s navy opponents” , points out the sports publication.

The rest of the Cubans will cross gloves with Mexican boxers, according to official information. In this way, Andy Cruz, gold in Tokyo 2020, will face the Mexican super lightweight Francisco Mercado (6-1, with two knockouts), while the light heavyweight Arlen López, double Olympic champion, will do so against Fernando Galván (7-4 and two knocked out).

Also gold in two dates under the five rings, super welterweight Roniel Iglesias, will fight Brandon Pérez (7-1-1), while multiple world champion Lázaro Álvarez will face super featherweight Joshman Reyes (3-2, a K.O.).

Finally, the world champion of the super middleweight category in Belgrade 2021, Yoenlis Feliciano, will make his professional debut against Gabriel López, who exhibits a record of 10-6-1 and seven knockouts, he specifies. Hit.

Cuban boxing competed for the first time in 2014 in semi-professional level competitions, when it entered the World Series of Boxing (WSB). In that tournament, the Domadores de Cuba won three of the five editions in which they participated, the last one in 2018.

In addition, prior to their participation in the Tokyo Olympics, eight Cuban boxers they came out on top against Mexican professionals, in which they achieved seven wins and one draw. On that occasion, several of those who will return to the arena on May 20 fought, including La Cruz, Andy and Arlen, who scored successes on that evening.
