President Gabriel Boric will start his second national tour this Wednesday, where he will visit his native region of Magallanes. In this context, the regional governor, George Fliespointed out that one of the main issues that he hopes to address with the President is border crossings.
“This is an extreme region that has a lot of relationship with Argentina and it was very impressive to keep the borders closed for almost two years and one of the key points is how we are going to deepen this relationship,” Flies said in conversation with emmol.
“We have expressed to the President the need to facilitate transit through border crossings. That is one of the key points,” continued the regional authority.
“One of the issues discussed with President Fernández was southern integration. Here, unlike the entire country, which has an Andes Mountain Range that separates us, here there is territorial continuity. So, historically, there is a very high relationship with the Argentine side,” he added.
Along these lines, Flies stated that “we still have steps that are double, one on the Argentine side and the other on the Chilean side, and the idea is that there be integration of these steps. In addition, expanding one more step in this period, which we are evaluating in the Province of Ultima Esperanza”
Regarding other requests, the regional governor said that Boric has already spoken “with us to be able to move towards a policy with a differentiated investment decision, budget and investment methodology for extreme areas. The request that he would make is that during his visit he announce the deepening and continuity, moving from a special plan to a permanent policy”.
The President will meet this Wednesday afternoon with Flies, the presidential delegate, Luz Bermúdez, and the seremis. The appointment will be given in Punta Arenas.
