Rubén Camargo Clarke, known by the alias “Cholo Chorrillo”, will remain in provisional detention in Costa Rica until June 11, pending extradition to the United States, as reported by the newspaper Teletica.
“Cholo Chorrillo” who was arrested last February in Grecia, Costa Rica, is required by an accusation in the Court of Los Angeles, California, for the crime of drug trafficking.
In the first instance, the Court of the Second Judicial Circuit of San José had imposed two months of preventive detention while the future of his extradition was decided. However, the press office of the Supreme Court of Justice confirmed, this Tuesday morning to Telenoticias, that said measure was extended until June 11.
Through an email they indicated: “Upon your query, they told us in the Criminal Court of the Second Judicial Circuit of San José that the person for whom you consult, with the surname Camargo, has provisional detention, which was ordered until the 11th June 2022, said office continues with the extradition process. It is the information to which we have access.”
Camargo Clarke was arrested after an operation carried out between Interpol Costa Rica and the Directorate of Intelligence and National Security (DIS).
He is investigated for being the leader of the Bagdad gang, one of the most dangerous criminal groups in Panama. He was with his wife at the time of his arrest. In addition, he is suspected of leading a group that smuggled drugs from Colombia to the United States.
The Court did not give more details about the extradition to the United States, the lawyer of alias “Cholo Chorrillo” did not answer the calls from this medium either.
In Panama it is required for the alleged commission of the crimes of drug trafficking and money laundering, among others. For his whereabouts, the National Police offered a reward of $50,000.
