Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Public Works and Communications, Deligne Ascención, highlighted that the reconstruction works of La Cordillera and Los Beisbolistas avenues are of significant importance for the relief of traffic at the entrance to the capital and the municipality of Santo Domingo. West and its surroundings in the so-called expansion zone.
In addition, both avenues are of vital importance, because they will be able to use these roads to move to places such as Haina, San Cristóbal, the Santo Domingo beltway, or to other sectors of the Santo Domingo Oeste municipality, to which they belong.
He said that the work carried out in the area involves an investment of more than 800 million pesos, and that Cordillera Avenue, around four kilometers long and with two lanes, is a connection point between two municipalities: Los Alcarrizos and West Santo Domingo.
This avenue is a direct connection between the different sectors of the expansion zone and the Duarte highway.
“Some very profound work has been done there, due first of all to the neglect of years of the different authorities that had not taken care of having the intervention that this road deserves, and also to the fact that a series of settlements that have been made around the entire perimeter of rivers and ravines prevented the natural drainage of this road”, he explained.
He said that the works on Cordillera Avenue have been delayed, due to the intervention carried out by the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (CAASD) in a section of it.
Minister Ascención also stated that the MOPC began an ambitious plan to build sidewalks and embankments in different sectors of West Santo Domingo, which due to the very nature of their makeup did not have these types of services, “and we have already built dozens of linear kms on sidewalks and curbs, to then proceed to the asphalting of those roads, which even in some cases we have already started.
He described the impact of these works among the residents of the area as very important, since he understood that the growth experienced by the municipality of Santo Domingo Oeste is towards that area, in what were previously properties that belonged to the State Sugar Council (CEA). , and that today different types of settlements have been made.
“Roads like these facilitate not only access and communication, but also contribute to orderly growth, because they encourage private developers to invest in housing developments,” he said.
Similarly, it is a reason to support those who have made investments to promote the sale of apartments, such as citizens who bought lots from the CEA and have built their homes individually.
Ascención explained that Cordillera Avenue crosses a series of sectors, such as La Ciénaga, La Concordia, Bayona, among others, “areas that have experienced quite significant growth throughout this area and that for years had been forgotten.”
Regarding Los Beisbolistas Avenue, he said that it is a very important work, “because it serves as the main road for the entire expansion area of the Santo Domingo Oeste municipality, which has grown towards the western part of the municipality, in the environment that from the 27 de Febrero Prolongation until reaching the Santo Domingo Beltway, a road that mainly connects it, continuing to Hato Nuevo, Batey Bienvenido, among others.
He stressed that this has meant that the MOPC, in order to guarantee a permanent and lasting job for the people who pass through it, has had to make an investment in vertical drainage with pipes up to 72 inches wide and a strong stabilization of the land.
Works in expansion area
For its part, the Deputy Ministry of Supervision and Inspection of the MOPC announced that apart from the construction of sidewalks and containments in different sectors of SDO, there is also the program of reconstruction and rehabilitation of streets, aimed at improving the conditions of the entire environment. for residents and passers-by in the area.
Among the roads to be reconstructed, apart from Los Beisbolistas and Cordillera avenues, are Diego and Interior streets in Caballona, the Hato Nuevo highway (Hato Nuevo-Caballona section), and the Hato Nuevo-Batey Bienvenido highway section.
Improvement and asphalting works are also being carried out on Jigüey-Aguacate street, which runs parallel from the 27 de Febrero extension to Cordillera avenue.
He announced that the placement of a first two-inch layer of asphalt has already begun.
Likewise, that in addition to the road works, it includes the expansion of the bridge over the Guzmán stream, on the Manoguayabo highway (Paseo de Los Beisbolistas) and the construction of a new section of street, to connect the Jigüey-Aguacate avenue, with the Hato Nuevo highway.
