The order to parade was given

Cuba, Primero de Mayo

Havana Cuba. – The Cuban dictator Raúl Castro Ruz reappeared this May Day in the Plaza de la Revolución during the parade called by the regime in order to show popular support for the Cuban Revolution. Next to him was the ruler of the day, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

The presence of Castro Ruz in the parade had recently been announcedduring the closing of the IV Plenum of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.

However, the central speech of the event was not delivered by Castro Ruz or Díaz-Canel, but by Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and general secretary of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba ( CTC).

As is common in the official Cuban discourse, the official denounced “the effects of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba” and said that they influenced shortages and inflation, low wage purchasing power and dissatisfaction of many Cubans, which, he said, “is used by the Yankees to fracture the unity around the Revolution.”

At another point in his speech, Guilarte de Nacimiento boasted of “Cuba’s victory against the pandemic,” thanks to the development of three vaccines (Abdala, Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus) and two vaccine candidates (Soberana 01 and Mambisa). He did not indicate that any of the vaccines have been approved by the World Health Organization or other competent international body.

This Sunday’s parade is the first after two years of suspension for the COVID-19 pandemicwhich caused an unprecedented health crisis on the Island.

The parades in the capital and the provincial and municipal capitals were called by the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba and were nourished by the mass organizations subordinated to the PCC. Several independent media reported in the previous days about the pressure exerted on workers from various sectors to make them participate in the May Day parade.

Several days before this Sunday, cCubans inside and outside the Island joined the campaign #YoNoMarcho, a call to boycott the parades called by the Castro regime. When the preparations for the parade were finalized in all the island’s provinces, hundreds of people assured that they would not be part of the political acts scheduled for this Sunday.

On the other hand, last Thursday Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the PCC in Havana, announced that the parade would be held “with fewer people.”

“Today, with fewer people, the enthusiasm has multiplied, an expression of the moment and commitment, and the value of the people to carry out this May Day in the Plaza de la Revolución, where so many times the value of the Revolution has been raised. and of socialism”, indicated the official during a partisan plenary session held at the Lázaro Peña Theater.
