The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) reported this Sunday that meteorological alerts and warnings are maintained for 13 provinces, due to the high probability that due to the current movement of the trough that affects the territory, the values of the rainy.
The institution indicated that the downpours will be accompanied by thunderstorms over provinces belonging to the regions, east, northeast, southeast, southwest, Central Mountain Range and will extend towards the Cibao valley and the northwest line as the day goes by.
“The wind blows from the east/northeast with values of 15 to 25 kilometers per hour with higher gusts. As for the temperatures, they will be pleasant during the development of the day”, he maintained.
The provinces under alert are Duarte, Samaná, Barahona, Sánchez Ramírez, San Cristóbal and María Trinidad Sánchez. The notice was issued for El Seibo, Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, Greater Santo Domingo, La Romana, La Altagracia and San Pedro de Macorís.
In his forecast for the beginning of the week (this Monday), the Onamet added that because the trough in the low levels it will move to the west, being located in the western part of the country, a gradual decrease in humidity is expected in the eastern, southeastern and southwestern portions, where some cloudy increases will occur with rainy scattered in the morning and early evening.
“For next Tuesday, the patterns of rainy above will decrease both in intensity and frequency, so we only foresee the occurrence of local showers and very isolated probabilities of thunderstorms, as well as gusts of wind in sectors of the northeast, southeast, and Central Cordillera in the afternoon hours, favored by the trough at higher levels it will move slowly eastward in a drier environment, which will begin to dominate the anticyclone,” he said.

The director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), retired General Juan Manuel Méndez, asked the population living in high-risk areas, in the alerted provinces, not to be careless.
He also called on the people who live in these demarcations to be aware of the weather bulletins and the protection agencies.
