The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today inaugurated the Specialized Chess Classroom at the Manuel Fajardo Sports University, with equipment donated by the Chinese company Haier Energy.
During the ceremony, the president called to strengthen the practice of the so-called science game in the country and encourage the organization of top-level events.
Díaz-Canel also toured the facilities of the House of Higher Studies, dedicated to promoting studies and academic research in Cuban sports.
According to the Twitter account of the Presidency, the head of state joined a simultaneous online chess session between Grand Master Lisandra Ordaz and several students.
Ordaz, a native of the province of Pinar del Río (west), is considered the leader of the discipline in the Caribbean country.
