British tycoon Richard Branson’s airline will resume flights to Cuba in November

MIAMI, United States. – The English airline Virgin Atlantic announced this week that it will restart its flights to the Island on the 1st. November, after two years without operating in Cuba due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“After a period of time that feels like eternity, we are delighted to restart flights to Havana on November 1,” public the airline on its Facebook page.

Strolling through sunny plazas, drinking daiquiri, then salsa all night long, all before listening to the soothing sounds of the Caribbean waves as you go to sleep in the Cuban capital. Cuba.

As is customary in this type of propaganda material, the airline did not include any reference to the island’s repressive climate or to the serious shortcomings of Cubans, who are currently leading a massive exodus to the United States comparable to the Mariel crisis.

Virgin Atlantic is one of the airlines of British tycoon Richard Branson, owner of the Virgin Group. It operates transcontinental flights from London to North America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.

branson is familiar to many Cubans for having met in November 2017 with Fidel Antonio Castro Smirnov one of the grandchildren of the late dictator Fidel Castro. The tycoon even declared that he was “delighted” to have met a grandson of Castro during a business trip to Cuba.

The British billionaire, whose fortune is valued at 5.1 billion dollars, described it as “lucky” to have met Castro Smirnov. On that occasion, both talked about the “shared love for adventure and the ocean”, and how “the various medical advances that have been developed in Cuba could be incredibly useful for the rest of the world”.

Branson did not hide his admiration for the Cuban regime. His conversation with Castro’s grandson also included the topic of the US embargo, which “has hampered Cuba’s development, but has also stopped US access to many of its advances,” he said.

The mighty investor wrote in one of his company’s media that he had “been flying to Cuba for many years with Virgin Atlantic.”

The airline inaugurated its route between Gatwick airport in London and Juan Gualberto Gómez airport in Varadero in April 2017.
