The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sánchez, stressed today that the ‘long holiday’ for Labor Day (from April 30 to May 2), will be an important opportunity for domestic tourism. According to a study carried out by the General Directorate of Research and Studies on Tourism and Crafts of Mincetur, on this date 297,000 trips would be made to the interior of the country, generating an economic movement of US$ 46 million.
The Government established, through Supreme Decree No. 033-2022-PCM, that Monday, May 2, will be non-working for public sector workers, so that they have a long holiday, because the day before is commemorated Worked. In the case of work centers in the private sector, they may avail themselves of the rule with the prior agreement between the employer and its workers.
“This is a great opportunity to promote the various tourist routes and gastronomy offered by the regions. For example, the Lima region brings together a series of fascinating destinations that show the enormous tourism potential of its provinces. About the study
According to the information provided by the Mincetur study, 81.6% of those surveyed would travel to regions other than their origin and 18.4% would make visits within their own region. The busiest cities would be Lima (17.2%), Arequipa (13.5%), San Martín (9.3%), Piura (8.8%), Cusco (8.7%), Junín (6.0%), La Libertad (5.6%), Ica (5.3%), Ayacucho (4%) and Cajamarca (3.5%)
The reasons why the regions would be visited would be for their tourist attractions (47.5%), because it is a nearby destination (37.4%), for its history and culture (24.3%), for its good weather (23.7%), for its gastronomy (18.8%), because it wanted to return (16.8%), by recommendation (14.2%) and because it is cheap (13.6%)
Regarding the characteristics of the trip, 77.8% would make the trip for vacations or recreation, 18.8% to visit relatives or friends, and 1.7% for religious reasons or pilgrimage.
Regarding the travel group, 26.3% would travel alone, 32.5% as a couple, 28.2% in a direct family group, 7.8% with friends or relatives without children, and 5.2% with friends or relatives with children.
Regarding the use of the means of transport, 37.3% would use the interprovincial bus, 30.5% by plane, 19.9% with their own car, 6.5% with an agency minivan and 3.7% would use the private mobility of a family member or friend
On the other hand, in the case of travel modality, 78% would do it on their own, 10.5% with a tourist package from an agency and 11.5% would buy a tour in the place visited.
It is also important to point out that those who would do tourism on the Labor Day holiday would spend an average of S/567 per person, with an average length of stay of 3 nights.
