Six months after announcing his “final” return To politics, former Vice President Raúl Sendic took a new step aside and said goodbye to the organic activity of the Broad Front (FA) in a letter to the members of his sector, the 711 List. “I will not organically be with you because I understand that we must bet on a replacement that guarantees the continuity of the project,” he explained in the letter accessed by El País.
“I take this step convinced and I hope you know how to understand it, I will always have them in my mind and heart because they are part of my lifethe best of my life,” he promised.
In November 2021, when participating in an act together with the socialist Gonzalo Civila, then a candidate for president of the Broad Front, Sendic told The Observer that this activity meant a “definitive” return to party activity. In those internal elections, his list obtained only 1,304 votes (1.3% of the total) and was left out of the Political Table.
“None can be Sendic”

“I endured a virulent campaign that was unleashed from politics and from the press. From inside and from outside… How many times have I heard FA leaders say ‘if I were Sendic I would do such and such a thing…’ and I banished that without responding, of course I responded to many grievances of all kinds that were launched from different places. None can be Sendic because each of us is a child of circumstances that he had to live and many of those who spoke did not live a good part of the things that I had to live. I have maintained a respectful silence, not only for the leaders but for the thousands of members of the Front who have held the flag high throughout the country,” he said.
Despite claiming to have “I apologize for the mistakes” to the members of the Front, expressed his personal satisfaction with his performance. “I have an enormous peace of mind, I was in very important places and I am proud to have left without a penny, beyond the stupidities that some repeat out of malice or ignorance over the 800 million, the ranches or the Sendic service stations,” he said.

In the final section of the letter, the former vice president highlighted “the unity” of his colleagues on the 711 List and the potential of the FA. “I say this because we have talked a lot about this point: beyond criticism or discrepancies there is no other political space in the country that is capable of advancing towards justice and equality that is not the FA”, he affirmed.
The former vice president alluded to some of his criticism of the political force. “A great united will is needed in the face of the deterioration of internal relations or the growing ego of some leaders. Needed much attachment to the poorest to put their needs on the table in a Front that He is very concerned about winning the political center and does not give enough importance to these vulnerable sectors,” he said.
“I’ll be aroundaccompanying them with all my heart —he assured— but I have many other things to solve and I feel that It should not be me, but other colleagues who can lead this process of reconstruction and growth to bring to the FA what the FA needs,” Sendic wrote.
“There will be time to meet again but meanwhile we will continue dreaming together with the best sunrise for our compatriots”, he concluded.
