The President of the Republic Mario Abdo Benítez, in a political act of the Republican Force Movement in Caaguazú, confirmed his intention to “play the race” by taking the reins of the Governing Board of the National Republican Association (ANR).
He clarified that he has not yet made the decision to participate in the internal red, indicating that he still has to fulfill the responsibility of being the president of all Paraguayans.
“The time will come to make that decision, I thank the leadership of Caaguazú, the friends who ask me to launch, do not think that it is an effort for me, the greatest privilege that I will have after being president of the Republic of all Paraguayans, is to lead our beloved and glorious Colorado Party”, he expressed during the event, according to what was reported by Radio 1000 AM.
However, the president’s private secretary, Mauricio Espínola, stated for Última Hora that the head of state wants to be the president of the ANR and that he will make his candidacy official in early June. He will thus face Horacio Cartes.
