CNDC urges the Government to "restore the rule of law in the area" after an arson attack in the province of Arauco

The National Union Confederation of Truck Owners of Chile (CNDC) referred to the arson attack registered in a gravel collection plant in the province of Arauco, Biobío region, leaving 25 trucks burned.

According to the information provided to the media, a group of 40 hooded men entered the Transa company, threatening the workers by shooting with automatic weapons, and then setting the machinery on fire.

Given this, the CNDC issued a statement calling on the government to “restore the rule of law in the southern macro zone.”

“Once again this Confederation must raise its voice to denounce a new act of terrorist violence in the south, a situation that today affected the Transa truck and aggregate company, whose workers and owners express our solidarity,” the text began.

In addition, they added that “the attack in Los Álamos, Los Ríos sector, demonstrates that the province of Arauco is a land without law, with the authority completely exceeded and without hitting any step that restores, at least in part, the security of those who They live and work in the area.

Given this, the CNDC stressed that “truck drivers are working people and it is unacceptable that 25 trucks are set on fire at one stroke, with the aggravating circumstance that they are already common events. It is not possible to be subjected to the actions of terrorists every day and irregular armed gangs that attack our drivers, shoot them like the colleague Cyrus Palma or the worker threatened with death in this morning’s attack”.

“Thus things are, no solution is seen, despite the fact that this Confederation has proposed intensifying police patrols, with safe armored cars, that are not easy prey for criminals,” they added.

Finally, they indicated that “we expect those in charge of public order to restore the rule of law in the Southern Macrozone.”

Criticism of the Superior Council of Transport

The Higher Transport Council (CST) also referred to the issue, through its president, Sergio Pérez, who stated in emmol that “the government cannot pretend that our people, our drivers, do not mobilize, when they continue to assault and attack us on the roads on a daily basis, without there being an effective response from the State to stop this uncontrolled violence that threatens our integrity and our labor sources.

“Here we are the victims, and it turns out that the Executive instead of working together on measures to solve the serious problem of violence that the country is experiencing, undertakes them against us for the legitimate right to mobilize and expose our concerns and demands, since from La Moneda they apply the State Internal Security Law to us,” he added.

Under this edge, the union leader maintained that “although we as the Superior Council of Transportation do not adhere to the recent mobilizations, we are not going to sit idly by waiting for the authorities to do something, because as we have already pointed out, if we do not observe a clear and forceful signal from the government against those who commit crimes in the country, we will join hands to make our voices heard for what is happening”.

“We cannot understand what the government is waiting for to restore the state of emergency in the South Macrozone, considering that figures published in the press show that since the measure was eliminated, crimes have more than doubled in this part of the country” , hill.
