From May 2020 to today, 3,060 packages of drugs have been seized. The apprehended will be brought before a Guarantee Judge according to the Prosecutor where they face crimes of conspiracy and corruption.
Three members of the security forces were arrested early this Thursday, April 28, through Operation Metro.
The authorities of the Public Ministry in conjunction with the National Police managed to capture 32 people, including two members of the National Police (PN) and one from the National Aeronaval Service (SENAN). A group receiving drugs from Colombia was located.
This operation took place in the provinces of Panamá Oeste, Coclé and Colón, and according to the investigations, the criminals transported the illicit substances to the Pacific through points such as La Pacora, Veracruz and Punta Chame. In La Pacora, province of Coclé, they seized 87 packages of suspected drugs.
“Operation Metro begins in May 2020, this operation begins its investigations by a criminal group that operates in the Veracruz sector using San Carlos and Punta Chame to receive drugs. The particularity of the group is that its activity is basically fishing which allows him to manage the knowledge of maritime activities,” said Marta Barrios, First Anti-Drug Prosecutor.
The confiscation of firearms and cash was also achieved.
He added that “this group particularly made trips to the borders by sea in Colombia where they received illicit substances, brought them to these sectors, especially here in the Veracruz sector, hid it and later made the transfers of said substance by land to the sector of Panama and West Panama. In fact, this group is a receiving group for the Baghdad gang.”
