Today, at a press conference, the president of the classist Autonomous Trade Union Confederation (CASC), Gabriel del Río, together with the other associations, extended the invitation to the Creole workers to attend the great demonstration of the International Day of the workerswith the aim of exposing in public aspects such as the reality that the working classes are going through, the trade union movement and its perspectives, and the evocation of the 30 years of the Dominican Labor Code.
“With this meeting we are going to remember the martyrs of Chicago, who in the 1920s demanded eight hours to sleep, work and recreate. Also, we will get together to demand and claim important rights, such as a Labor Code that does not push back, but rather a Labor Code that resolves health and care problems for workers,” said Del Río.
At the end of 2021, the employed population in the country amounted to 4,422,841, reports the Central Bank. Of these, 49% were in the formal sector and the rest in the informal.
