House standing committees elect presidents

Chamber hearing discusses color or race in SUS records

The Chamber of Deputies elects this Wednesday (27) the presidents of the majority of its 25 permanent committees. Because of the party window period, when, with an eye on the elections, many parliamentarians change parties, this year, the choice is being made late, almost at the end of April. The party window period ended on the 1st of this month.

The main commission, the Constitution and Justice (CCJ), will be led by deputy Arthur Oliveira Maia (União-BA).

Upon being elected, Maia highlighted the importance of the collegiate body, through which all the proposals in the Chamber pass. He also pointed out that, even with the year shortened by the electoral dispute, he expects a lot of work. “Let’s make this a great year. All the necessary topics will be debated with pride, despite this being an election year”, said Maia, without detailing what he will have as a priority.House standing committees elect presidents

Another key House committee, Finance and Taxation (CFT), elected Marco Bertaiolli (PSD-SP) as president. “We will try to be quick in the analysis of all projects, and bring to the Chamber plenary the proposals that can truly help the country, especially for those who undertake, involve their capital, their life to generate work opportunities”, said Bertaiolli.

Criteria

The distribution of commissions is based on the result of the last election for the Chamber (2018) and on the principle of party proportionality. In the definition of who gets which collegiate, the size of the bench in the House defines the priority of choice and the number of presidencies that the legend can claim.
