Changes in structure and relegitimation by consensus or elections are striving for PJ

Within Primero Justicia, they are busy with internal changes. Tomás Guanipa, general secretary of the PJ, has offered that there will be restructuring and internal democratization. A special commission is working on the elaboration of the schedule for the domestic process of this opposition organization

Within First Justice (PC) are busy with the changes that are still being debated and that have generated some domestic and foreign noise.

Several unofficial reports have circulated between corridors stating that the aurinegro party would be preparing a varnish to show an internal “renewal” that would not go through internal elections. But the general secretary of the opposition organization, Thomas Guanipaassured on April 25 that they will relaunch “several processes of restructuring and internal democratization of our organization.”

Although Guanipa did not offer details, he stated that PJ will carry out a programmatic congress. Sources from this opposition political organization told SuchWhich that the congress will be held after May 15.

According to Guanipa, from the programmatic congress, “the solutions that must be implemented in a democratic Venezuela, where we will have a government that works for the people,” will be presented to the country.

A leader consulted for this text stated that «the approach, within PJ, is to finish advancing in a schedule that allows the relegitimation of the party authorities. That schedule has not yet been discussed, it is being prepared, and there is a commission for that. If there is no consensus, it goes through an electoral process.”

It was also known that the renewal process within the PJ will begin at the regional level before going to the national level, as established by the party’s statutes: they renew the regions and the regions renew the national board.

“What we don’t know, when the schedule opens, is if there is going to be a single plate, or if there are going to be several plates. Where there is only one iron, obviously, there will be no elections because there is no one to count on. That will be determined by the dynamics, “said another PJ leader.

They assure that one of the aspects that has achieved the greatest debate is the transformation of the party’s structure. After the approval of the new structure, the Electoral Commission will be appointed.

Until now, the PJ structure is based on a national coordinator, a position held Julio Borges since the party was born two decades ago, a general secretary, Tomás Guanipa; and an organization secretary, a position held Edison Ferrerformer president of the Venezuelan Association of Councillors. In this sense, it has been proposed to reduce the structure of the National Directorate, in addition to opting for the role of a president and vice-presidents.

“I think it is time for us to seek a renewal, not to put on new faces, but precisely to open the game,” said Borges, at the end of 2021.

At this point, one of the pieces of information that has been said, behind the scenes, is that Julio Borges leaves the head of the party. However, how this change would take place and how Borges, who has been in Colombia in recent years, would end up, is what is not clear. In this context, they refer, there is a commitment that the vital space and political discussion be the National Political Committee of the PJ.

Along the way, there has been unofficial talk that the leader María Beatriz Martínez would assume control of the yellow awning. However, several sectors refer that this could not be more than an attempt.

The sources consulted indicate that the distribution of the leadership of the party has not been made official. They refer, for example, to José Guerra in Caracas, Pedro Méndez Dager in the municipality of Sucre de Miranda and, among others, to Andrew Schloeter in Miranda. In that state, the founding base of the awning and in supposed revision after recent electoral results, the former mayor of Sucre Carlos Ocariz and Milagros Varela also live.

On April 25, PJ Yaracuy reported that the leader Miguel Ugas was expelled from the political organization for violating the statutes.

On the other hand, on March 29, PJ Nueva Esparta announced that it had sworn in more than 130 leaders, on the way to “the structure for the challenges on the road to rescuing democracy.”

In February of this year, the leader Juan Miguel Matheus announced that the party will begin a process to legitimize internal leadership positions. He then asserted that this process will be carried out in accordance with the institutions, statutes and regulations of the opposition organization.

Matheus indicated that PJ will work on strengthening leadership. In this sense, he maintained that they hope to present a leader for the primaries, and they will go out to the streets to implement permanent civic education and social action programs.

PJ’s candidates

Along with the organizational changes and the challenges of relegitimation, in PJ the names of the presidential candidates also sound. This is how we talk about the Guanipa brothers, Tomás and Juan Pablo. The first, due to his role as Secretary General of the party, tours the country. Both he and Juan Pablo, first vice president of the National Assembly (AN) in 2015, are politically disqualified.

It happens the same with Henrique Caprileswho was the opposition’s presidential candidate in October 2012 after winning opposition primaries, and again in April 2013.

Along the way, they also point to the possible aspirations of Carlos Ocariz, who would leave the coordination of PJ in Miranda. These days, the former mayor of Petare tours the states. This Tuesday, April 26, he was in Carabobo.
