The General Director of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, assured yesterday that “the Dominican Republic is taking the necessary precautions” so that the jamming of ships in the shanghai port “does not affect the supply chain of the Dominican economy.”
The Chinese government has decreed restrictions in that city in response to a resurgence of covid-19, which hampers the operations of the largest container port in the world.
This situation has already reduced exports from that terminal, according to some estimates, affecting the industries of the countries that expect these products to be able to function.
Sanz Lovatón did not specify the measures adopted by the Dominican Government. The official spoke in the act of the first pierce to build a temperature-controlled warehouse in the Caucedo Multimodal Portheaded by President Luis Abinader.

The company DP Worldwhich handles the logistics of the Caucedo Multimodal Portannounced the construction of a temperature-controlled warehouse that, according to the director of Customs, will turn the Dominican Republic into the logistics hub of the region and the center of trade in the American continent.
The development of the project will be in charge of the company Emergent Cold Latin America (LatAM), provider of controlled temperature storage and logistics in the region, through a collaboration agreement with DP Worldwhich also includes the company’s operations in Ecuador and Peru.
The refrigerated warehouse produces a precise temperature and improves cold chain management, which ensures the integrity of the products. It is capable of cold storage (0 to 6 degrees Celsius), frozen storage (-18 to -30 degrees Celsius) and quick freezing.
The warehouse will have 6,500 square meters with controlled temperature and 8,000 multi-temperature pallet positions (frozen, refrigerated and ambient). The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Víctor Bisonó, said that the new investments represent a sign that “our country continues to be the ideal place to be promoted as the most important logistics hub in the Americas region and the ideal setting for companies from manufacturing and logistics from different parts of the world are installed, operate and invest in format nearshoring”.
“These centers put the Dominican Republic at the forefront of being a logistics hub,” according to San Lovatón. The work is expected to create hundreds of thousands of jobs.
