Appointment of the TSJ out of time
On the afternoon of this Tuesday, April 26, outside the periods established by the Constitution, the National Assembly (AN) elected in 2020 appointed the new magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), their alternates, the Court Inspector and the Director of the National School of the Judiciary. 12 of the magistrates already in office repeat and will exceed the constitutional limit of 12 years for the highest judicial positions.
Through a releasethe interim denounced that the appointment of the magistrates “is the most recent sign of the absence of democracy in our country, marked by a process of distribution of quotas between the different power groups of the dictatorship and its accomplices that distances the possibility of find justice, truth and reparation for thousands of Venezuelans who have suffered in their own flesh the arbitrariness by which life in Venezuela has been characterized in the last two decades.
He warned that these appointments have “the purpose of hindering” the efforts of instances such as the International Criminal Court, the Fact-Finding Mission of the UN Human Rights Council and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, which have dedicated years to the search for justice and reparation in our country; and that this makes it “unfeasible” for any type of “principle of complementarity” to be applied in the country.
Finally, they called on the international community to “ignore this process that maintains and deepens the institutional crisis in Venezuela.”
