Ángel Alvarado: Tripartite social dialogue is important so as not to make increases via Twitter

Ángel Alvarado - Oposición

Alvarado believes that establishing these policies that include the business, union and State sectors will help the economy

The economist and co-founder of the Venezuelan Observatory of Finance (OVF) Ángel Alvarado recalled that the visit of the commission of surveys of the International Labor Organization (ILO) occurs after several years -2007 to 2021 according to his accounts- were « criminalized” the economic activity in the country and stressed that it is essential that an important social dialogue can take place, just as he hopes that the business community and the unions will no longer be “perceptively viewed”.

In an interview given to GlobovisiónAlvarado recalled that before 2010 a person could be imprisoned for having dollars in their wallet, emphasizing that in those years managers of pharmacies, commercial establishments and even the oil sector were arrested; which motivated the commission of surveys of the ILO to become active and interested in what is happening in the country.

He stressed that this tripartite wage policy dialogue that must take place between the State, employers and workers is necessary to prevent announcements of minimum wage increases from being made through social networks, but rather allowing rules to be defined regarding wages, social security and pensions.

He indicated that the salary increase must be the result of public inclusion policies, where investment and innovation in Venezuela are facilitated, and there are clear rules in the country, regarding the rule of law and also fight against corruption.

Regarding the slight economic growth that is experienced in the country, Alvarado said that after the economic collapse that was registered in the country, where only in 2020 there was a 92% drop in economic activity, it is “logical” that there is a “ rebound effect”.

In this sense, he stressed that there is a possibility that the national economy could be growing by 10%, especially due to activity in the first half of 2022, although he warned that things may be difficult for the second half of the year.

He stressed that aspects such as export capacity and oil prices have been improved, which benefit our economy. However, it is difficult to determine how much it will grow because these predictions depend on several factors that influence that decision.

For this reason, Ángel Alvarado believes it is important to attack the energy sector first because it has been the great engine of the economy and from there a “cascade effect” is generated that allows the improvement of the others. He believes, however, that it is a double-edged sword to depend on a single income.

“It is good that it is so, but it is also a threat. Then it becomes a fragile growth, reversible, which obviously has risks. It is important to say that the economy is better, but it does not mean that it is fine because it has not recovered to the levels we had in 2013 or 2013 (…) We can speak of improvement compared to the previous year », he emphasized.
