The Federal Council of Mental Health and Addictions (Cofesama) begins this Tuesday two days of deliberations in Buenos Aires, during which it will address the situation and the main challenges in mental health in Argentina, it was reported today.
The first day will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Kirchner Cultural Center, while tomorrow, at the same time, the deliberations will take place at the Red Lic. Laura Bonaparte National Hospital, located on Combate de los Pozos street. 2133 of the city of Buenos Aires.
The agenda of the meeting, according to Health sources, includes analyzing the state of the mental health situation in Argentina and internationally, and identifying the main challenges in mental health in Argentina.
In addition, publicize the initiatives of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) and identify and prioritize the lines of work and define the actions to be developed during the current year.
The Cofesama meeting will include the participation of foreign guests such as Devora Kestel, Director of Mental Health and Substance Use of the WHO, and Matias Irarrazaval, Subregional Advisor on Mental Health and Addictions, PAHO/WHO.
The closing of the meeting, scheduled for tomorrow at the Bonaparte Hospital, will be headed by the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, added the sources of that portfolio.
The Cofesama meeting takes place after the presentation made yesterday by President Alberto Fernández of the National Mental Health Strategy, which includes various actions to help the “full recovery of psychosocial well-being” after the pandemic.
The investment in mental health will go from 3,700 million pesos to 7,700 million, “which represents a 107% increase in relation to the current budget, to enhance the actions already carried out and promote new ones,” it was officially reported.
