After meeting for several hours, at noon this Monday, April 25, carriers gathered at the Provincial Chamber of Transportation of Panama West, decided to go on an indefinite strike, assured the president of the union, George Dimas.

“The bases have spoken loud and clear, we are going on an indefinite strike, starting now,” he said when announcing a walk to the National Assembly of Deputies, where they protested and partially closed a road.

The leader assured that it is no longer an issue that they must deal with the Land Traffic and Transportation Authority, for which they demand a meeting with the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, so that he can analyze their proposals. Failing that, they would agree to be attended by a high government commission.

Dimas highlighted that within the requests of the carrier bases are the freezing of fuel, at $2.40, and the revision of the rate. She said that if gasoline cannot be frozen at that price, they are willing to listen to other alternatives.
He specified that not only the truckers from the West will be unemployed because Darien leaders decided to support the measure; while Veraguas and Herrera are meeting to agree on support for the strike.
