Madrid Spain.- The Aeroméxico company could start making flights to tourist destinations in Havana, Varadero, Santa Clara, Camagüey, Holguín and Santiago de Cuba at the end of the current year.
As reported by the Mexican site reportciting the Minister of Tourism of the Cuban embassy in Mexico, Sonia Beltrán, this decision is due to the increase in demand from Mexican tourists who wish to visit the Island and the relaxation of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Around 5,000 Mexican tourists have visited Cuba during 2022. According to the Cuban authorities, this year could end with more than 120,00, counting on the new offer of Aeroméxico, the most recognized airline of the Aztec country, founded in 1934.
Currently the companies Viva Aerobus and Magnicharters fly to Cuba from Mexico. The latter recently announced a varied offer of trips to Havana and Holguín.
Last March, Magnicharters, belonging to Grupo Aéreo Monterrey SA, also opened a promotion special for this month of April on the Havana-Mérida route, which consisted of allowing a baggage allowance of 10 kg in the cabin, and 23 kg in the hold.
According to statements by Sonia Beltrán, until April 17, of the 399,077 international tourists who had arrived in Cuba in 2022, 4,979 were Mexicans.
Of the total number of foreign visitors that Cuba received in the last four months, 362,006 came from the 20 main source markets. In that list, Mexico is ranked 11th, below nations such as Canada, the United States, Russia, and Germany. While of the Latin American countries issuing tourism to Cuba, Mexico ranks first, above Argentina, Colombia and Venezuela.
