Reduce the number of hours worked per shiftwithout there being a loss of income received by workers, within the framework of the technological advance that has been taking place in the dairy industry, is a proposal that the Federation of Dairy Industry Workers (FTIL) approved dealing with the sector business.

The workers voted unanimously that the management of the federation take the proposal and evaluate when, after the Salary Council, it will be presented to the companiesincluding Conaprole, the largest company in the dairy agribusiness sector.

The proposal was voted unanimously.

Enrique Méndez, representative of the FTIL, explained to The Observer that the idea arose because in the world of work, and specifically in Uruguay, “the automation technological revolution 4.0 is taking placein which there are technological advances that in some cases increase responsibilities, lead to new training, in many cases have increased productivity levels and can also shed jobs”.

They declared themselves in conflict

The proposal was voted in the framework of the General Assembly that the union held last Thursday in Montevideo, at the headquarters of the Association of Workers and Employees of Conaprole (AOEC), after meeting with the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Pablo Mieres, for the lack of progress in the field of Salary Councils.

In that framework, the workers declared themselves in conflict with the Chamber of the Uruguayan Dairy Industry (CILU).

Méndez maintained that once the matter related to the Salary Council is concluded, the FTIL will evaluate how progress can be made regarding “all that technological advance that negatively impacts jobs”, in the understanding that working hours can be reduced without lower wages, so that the proposal does not have a negative impact on the family economies of workers.
