MADRID, Spain.- The Provincial Court of Mayabeque rejected the appeal of the brothers Nadir and Jorge Martín Perdomo, sentenced to 6 and 8 years in prison, respectively, for their participation in the demonstrations on July 11 in San José de las Lajas. .

“The court’s bias is evident when it discredits the defense evidence with superfluous arguments without confronting them with other evidence,” said lawyer Reynel Gustavo Brito López.

As reported Radio Television Marti, the lawyer argued that the sanctions imposed on the young people, accused of public disorder, contempt and attack, “are severe” and “do not correspond to the appropriate records of conduct that are accredited to the accused.”

Nadir, a language teacher, and Jorge, a cybernetician, were tried on January 25, in a trial “riddled with irregularities and lies, with prosecutors who had no consideration and committed perjury,” said their mother, Marta Perdomo.

“The lawyer dismantled the ‘evidence’ of the Prosecutor’s Office, but those sentences were already agreed upon. (…) We are seeing the unjust sanctions for Nadir and Jorge and for all the political prisoners of 11J. We ask for freedom for all”, expressed the lady.

The brothers were arrested on July 17, 2021. After 51 days in the “AIDS Prison” they were transferred to the Quivicán prison. Nadir currently remains in this prison and Jorge in Melena del Sur.

Both prisons are more than 30 kilometers away from his mother’s home, who explained: “To get there I have to pay for a car that costs me 1,500 pesos. The driver, out of consideration for us, leaves me the trip at 1,200 or 1,300 pesos. But I have to travel twice, because they are separated”.

In the middle of this month, the United States Embassy in Cuba denounced the sentences against Nadir and Jorge Martín Perdomo.

“Brothers, former educators, respected members of San José de las Lajas: Jorge and Nadir Perdomo, sentenced to 8 and 6 years in prison for peacefully protesting 11J. Without sense. All 9/11 protesters deserve to be home with their families,” he stated via Twitter the consular headquarters.
