The Federation of Public Health Officials (FFSP) issued a statement denouncing an attack: “This time, from a colleague who performs tasks at the Maciel Hospital.”

A police officer was guarding a patient deprived of liberty and attacked a hospital worker with a fist bump. According to the statement released by the FFSP, The agent became violent when he was warned that he should wear a mask because the patient could be infected with tuberculosis.

“The nurse tried to explain to the Ministry of the Interior that he had to enter with a mask, and he did not like it. He repeated it again and the cash punched him in the stomach“, he explained to The Observer the president of the FFSP, Martin Pereira.

The worker made the complaint in the First Sectional and the FFSP in the Ministry of the Interior. Today, the director of Coexistence and Citizen Security of the Ministry of the Interior, Santiago González, contacted Pereira to inform him that there was an ongoing investigation. From the federation they stated that the important thing was that the fact be clarified and also, make sure it doesn’t happen again because the troops of the Ministry of the Interior work daily in the different hospitals.

“The duty of the Police is to protect, not to cowardly attack a worker seeking the impunity that his uniform confers,” maintains the FFSP.

As a result of the attack, Maciel Hospital officials carry out a 24-hour strike. “We totally reject the situation and we sympathize with the attacked nurse,” concluded Pereira.
