the president of Francethe liberal Emmanuel Macron, was re-elected this Sunday by obtaining between 15.2 and 16.4 points difference over his rival, the far-right Marine Le Pen, in the second round of the French presidential elections, according to four vote projections.

The biggest advantage is given by Ipsos with 58.2-41.8% and the smallest is that of Elabe (57.6-42.4), he specifies a report from the agency EFE.

Five years ago, the liberal Macron took an advantage of ten million votes over Le Pen, an income that has been cut in half this time, according to projections.

However, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, said that the president achieved “a wide difference” against his rival, while the Secretary of State for European Affairs, Clément Beaune, stated that it is “a clear victory”.

The government spokesman, Gabriel Attal, considered that the re-election of Macron, 44, is a “historic result to which a historical responsibility corresponds.” This is the first re-election of a president since Jacques Chirac’s victory in 2002.

Even so, Le Pen achieved the best result of the nationalist extreme right in a French election. This time he achieved a better result than in 2017, when he got 34% of the vote compared to 66% for Macron.

“Tonight’s result in itself represents a splendid victory. Millions of compatriots have chosen the national field », commented the candidate shortly after the televisions announced her estimates, refer international media.

“This result is a signal to European leaders that there is a challenge coming from the French,” he added after acknowledging his defeat.

This second round of the presidential election was characterized by low participation, estimated for now at around 72%, which would be the lowest in 53 years, since the 1969 elections. In addition, the first data suggest that there would be 6% of invalid votes.

Recently re-elected president, Macron promised to “listen to the silence of the abstentionists” and respond to the reasons “for the anger” of those who have supported his riva to try to heal the country’s wounds.

“Many compatriots have voted for me to block the extreme right. That commits me for the next five years », he pointed out.

“The next five years will not be quiet, but they will be historic, and together we are going to write them for the new generations,” he told those who gathered to celebrate his victory.
