The tragic death of Fray Wilberth Daza Rodas has shocked not only Santa Cruz, but has also left deep pain in Macharetí, his native land. His remains have reached the Chuquisaca region on Monday night amid applause, white handkerchiefs and tears.

His family and neighbors waited for the vehicle that transported the coffin from Santa Cruz to that region. Then a long column formed in the funeral procession.

The remains were escorted by a caravan to the Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia parish, where the wake was set up.

In the midst of this demonstration, many relatives and neighbors carried pictures with the image of the Franciscan priest, whose remains will be buried in Macharetí in the next few hours.

Daza was found dead at dawn on Sunday in the facilities of the San Francisco Church, where he served. He had lost his life the night before after receiving blows to the head and face.

This Monday, the Police reported that the murderer of the friar, 44, was part of his congregation and had drug problems.

The Government Minister, Eduardo del Castillo, explained that an operation was activated to find the perpetrator of the crime.
