The Covid-19 Citizen Observatory network of doctors warned this Saturday that the population of Nicaragua “is beginning to trust” in the prevention of the coronavirus pandemic, which has left millions of dead around the world.
“Given that in the countries of the world there has been a relaxation of protection measures, in Nicaragua the population begins to trust. However, in Nicaragua we have not reached the recommended immunization levels to trust in reducing protection measures,” the observatory indicated in its most recent report.
Social immunization levels are reached when the majority of the inhabitants of a place are protected against infection, which is known as “herd immunity”.

Last Thursday the Government of Nicaragua, a country of 6.5 million inhabitants, reported that so far in 2022 more than 1.1 million people over two years of age have been vaccinated against covid-19, without specifying whether this is the first time, the full cycle, or booster.
According to the Ministry of Health, Nicaragua has accumulated 233 deaths from covid-19 and 18,608 confirmed cases since March 2020, when the virus was detected in the country.
The numbers contrast with those of the Citizen Observatory, which reports 5,994 deaths from pneumonia and other symptoms related to the new coronavirus, as well as 32,174 suspected cases of contagion, data that the Government rejects.
The Observatory recalled that “the pandemic is not over”, and recommended that the population maintain sanitary measures, such as getting vaccinated, wearing a mask, maintaining social distance, washing hands, avoiding crowds, among others.
