BB offers service in Libras to hearing-impaired customers

Banco do Brasil customers with hearing or speech impairments are now provided with assistance in the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) in on-site and remote services. The novelty applies to the branches, the Relationship Center, the Customer Service (SAC) and the Ombudsman.BB offers service in Libras to hearing-impaired customers

Interpreters in a specialized center will help customers through video calls, both in physical service at branches and remotely.

To provide assistance to people with hearing and speech impairments, Banco do Brasil entered into a partnership with Icom, a reference platform in the market in translation for deaf people. The platform provides communication in Libras, lip reading or text anytime, any day, for all people who need accessibility.

How it works

Simultaneous translation is offered through video calls with a specialized company. At branches, the call is initiated by the Banco do Brasil employee. In the app or in site of the financial institution, the customer can initiate a video call with an interpreter, who, through an exclusive line with BB, translates the service provided by the BB Relationship Center, SAC and Ombudsman.

According to Banco do Brasil, the initiative is in line with the ten Sustainability Commitments assumed by the institution in 2021. The bank has goals to be implemented by 2030 for sustainable business, responsible investment and environmental, social and governance management.

The institution also trains employees to improve service to people with any type of disability. According to the latest census by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), there are about 10 million people with hearing or speech impairments in Brazil. Of this total, almost 3 million are totally deaf and do not have fluency in Portuguese, using Libras as the main language of communication.
