Santo Tomás staff will march on Monday, April 25, to the National Assembly

Since the beginning of this week, personnel from the Santo Tomás Hospital have demonstrated outside the hospital, since they denounce that they have not been taken into account in the discussion of the Bill 550 on patronage, which has been raised to second debate in the National Assembly.

Dr. Juan Carmelo Wong, president of the Association of Physicians of said hospital, declared this Friday in Telemetro Reporta, that “the president partially vetoed Bill 550, he vetoed three articles 1, 9 and 10, that was the On April 1, sponsored by the Ministry of Health, a meeting was held with the deputies and the members of the boards of trustees and the medical directors on April 7, where the boards were told that they should make some suggestions for the objections that had been raised. Mr. President made it and so it was done on April 12. The boards of trustees sent a series of suggestions, both for articles 1, 9 and 10 and they were accepted by the Assembly, however on the same 13, they summon a meeting; It surprises me because from the 12th to the 13th there is a day, I don’t think they have read the suggestions of the boards and a meeting is scheduled for April 19, where practically what the boards had contributed is not taken into account and they they had, let’s say a series of objections and that’s what they pass for second debate”.

According to the doctor, what the deputies have done so far is to cite what President Cortizo objected to and make a correction, which does not satisfy the patronage.

“It is proposed that this Law not be applied to the already existing boards of trustees, but the deputies do not agree and they pass it to a second debate. The political actors are not eliminated, the representative of the Fund is maintained, the representative of the Health Region, which was the target of criticism,” he mentioned.

Wong revealed that in view of this, for Monday, April 25, they have organized a march to the National Assembly at 3:00 pm and will ask the chamber to attend to them.
