A seismic activity very high was recorded in the first quarter of this year to the southwest of Haiti, very close to the eastern coast of Cuba, as a result of the 7.3-magnitude earthquake on August 14, 2021, official media on the island report.
However, the National Seismological Service of Cuba (SSNC) reported that “so far no anomalous increase has been manifested” for the island, according to a note from the official newspaper Granma.
The seismicity during the first quarter of 2022 has been characterized by being mostly related to the Oriente fault, indicates the media, based on information shared on his Facebook profile by Enrique Arango, deputy technical director of the National Center for Seismological Research (Cenais) .
The expert published on the social network a summary of the perceived seismicity during that period of time in Cuba and its surroundings, where a total of 2,134 earthquakes have been recorded, of which 791 were in the Cuban region and only three were perceptible. Those registered in the southwestern zone of Haiti amount to 1,115, reports Granma.
According to the publication, the day with the highest seismic activity in Cuba during this year was March 14, with 22 earthquakes, and the area with the highest number was Santiago-Baconao with 378 movements.
