Haiti condemns deportation of pregnant migrants from the Dominican Republic

The Ministry of Feminine Condition and Women’s Rights expressed its dismay after the images of immigration agents driving pregnant women to buses, and the complaints that even those entered health centers were made public.

According to the portfolio note, the conditions of the deportations are inhumane, and he invited his government to do what is necessary to defend the rights of Haitian women in the neighboring country.

“This hunt for Haitian nationals, hunting them like wild animals in subhuman conditions, investing in hospitals to deport women who have just given birth to Haiti and keeping their babies in incubators in the Dominican Republic are inhumane acts,” he said.

At the beginning of this month Santo Domingo decided to limit access to public hospitals to illegal immigrants and only provide care in cases of extreme urgency, after the diplomatic dispute on Twitter between Foreign Minister Claude Joseph and the Dominican President, Luis Abinader.

After the measure, returns intensified, while the Repatriated and Refugee Support Group denounced the occurrence of human rights violations against pregnant Haitians and criticized the immigration agents breaking into hospitals and returning women who had been in that hospital for several years. country.

“A Haitian woman who had just undergone a caesarean section was forced by Dominican migration agents to leave the hospital and was repatriated at the Belladere border without her baby who remained in the incubator,” lamented the organization.
