The Nicaraguan Human Rights Collective Never Again denounced the cancellation of the legal status of 25 Non-Governmental Organizations, stating that the Daniel Ortega regime seeks to “strengthen the repression to the detriment of organized civil society with the aim of silencing society.”
Through its social networks, the organization rejected that Daniel Ortega intends to “strip society of its rights of association and participation in public affairs.” The regime approved the banning of NGOs with 74 votes in favor, zero against, 15 abstentions and one present. Among these entities is the Permanent Commission on Human Rights (CPDH)

“Once again the Ministry of the Interior and the National Assembly, by order of the Ortega-Murillo regime, are violating the human rights of the Nicaraguan population, who will no longer be able to benefit from these organizations. These are actions that are part of the strategy of persecution and criminalization of the right of association and citizen participation,” reads the statement issued by the Collective.
The proposal sent by the Sandinista deputy Filiberto Rodríguez, who chairs the Peace, Defense, Government and Human Rights Commission, highlights that these organizations did not report their financial reports according to the fiscal periods and detailed breakdowns as established by law.
Before this action by the dictatorship, the CPDH board of directors denounced on February 28, that at that time the Ministry of the Interior (Migob) refused to receive the annual financial report that it is obliged to comply with as an institution.

«The regime to date has canceled 160 organizations violating, among others, the right of association, expression and political participation, typical of a citizenry in Nicaragua. We repudiate the system of repression that the Ortega-Murillo regime promotes on civil society”, the defenders reject.
For his part, the organization’s executive secretary, Marcos Carmona, lamented this attack and stated “that for 45 years we have defended human rights and we have never been enemies of any government.” He stressed that the only loser is the Nicaraguan people.
After the communication from the CPDH, it was possible to see that some citizens came to ask if they will continue working, however, Marcos Carmona informed them that they will no longer work. This Wednesday their offices remain closed.
