MIAMI, United States. – Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel assured on April 9, during the closing ceremony of the Provincial Assembly of the Havana Party, that the PCC was fighting for the “prosperity” of the people.
Although the dictator spoke those words almost two weeks ago, it was not until this Wednesday, April 20, that the official site Cubadebate reproduced the entire speech of the ruler.
According to the also first secretary of the PCC, a position he assumed to replace Raúl Castro, his organization “struggles for prosperity that ranges from food to recreation, that includes scientific development, superior spiritual wealth, well-being and that empower the design of the functional and the beautiful.”
In his extensive speech, plagued by the commonplaces of the official discourse, Díaz-Canel blamed the embargo imposed by the United States for the serious structural problems of the Cuban economy.
Likewise, he justified the repression given the increase in what he considers “political-ideological subversion.”
The president also assured that the PCC was engaged in “finding the contradictions” of Cuban society. “All that [hay que] do it with a defense of socialism from Marxist approaches to avoid getting out of the way, especially at a time when there are neoliberal currents that try to impose their criteria and many of these ideas come disguised as a semantic and emotional mantle to confuse”, he said.
The dictator did not recognize the seriousness of the economic problems affecting the Island, but said that “socialist solutions” would be applied, “socialist transformations” that “allow social balance to be recovered, maintaining social property as hegemonic.”
On the other hand, he stated that the Party had to “look inside”. “We are looking at ourselves from within, continuing the tradition of criticism within the Party, and for that we also have to develop the broadest popular participation in all our processes and in decision-making,” he pointed out.
Díaz-Canel also boasted about the alleged results achieved by the country in confronting the coronavirus pandemic. “Although we have accomplished a tremendous feat, although today we are one of the countries that has shown the best results in confronting the pandemic, we were late with vaccination because we had to investigate, we had to carry out studies, clinical trials, we had to carry out emergency studies. for after that was validated to be able to vaccinate our population”, he justified himself.
However, he did not allude to the fact that the vaccines against COVID-19 developed in Cuba have not been certified by the World Health Organization (WHO) or any scientific body independent of the Havana regime.
The island’s leaders often publicly express their devotion to the Communist Party, as if it were a political religion.
At the end of March, the newly appointed first secretary of the PCC in Matanzas, Susely Morfa, told the newspaper Granma that this organization had to be more “democratic” and “inclusive”. “It has to be a Party that enchants, adds and takes more advantage of the contributions, energies and potential of young people,” he added.
